You might be asking yourself what Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy actually is….?

So. Here goes. CBH is a form of therapy that combines the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with the use of hypnosis. CBH helps individuals identify and challenge negative thoughts and behaviours that contribute to unhelpful outcomes (as well as a number of mental health conditions).

‘Cognitive’ means ‘thinking’, so it’s about thinking patterns that may be unhelpful to us and which contribute to outcomes that we are not happy with. By uncovering these within the therapeutic process, we can replace them with more positive and helpful thinking patterns.

‘Behavioural’ means ‘behaviours i.e. the things we actually do. Sometimes, these behaviours are unhelpful to us and can produce outcomes which we’re not content with. By becoming aware of these less helpful behaviours, we can learn more positive and useful ones that can replace them to assist us to achieve more beneficial and wanted results.

The focus of CBH is on the present moment and the future and does not investigate, to any great depth, historical events. The therapy is focussed on helping clients change the way they think and behave in order to overcome their difficulties.

Hypnosis itself is one of many therapeutic tools and techniques used to help clients. The hypnosis component of CBH is used to enhance the therapeutic process and support positive change when the client is in an inwardly focussed state of attention (hypnosis).

CBH focuses on the thinking and behaviours that derail us and aims to help us develop better thinking (cognitions) and doing (behaviours) so that we stay on track.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (Kirsch et al., 1995) and hypnosis (Kittle & Spiegel, 2021) has been scientifically evidenced to be one of the most effective psychotherapeutic therapies that there currently is. 

A little bit more about me

I’ve spent many years studying and training in various aspects of people and how to help them get the best from themselves. 

I’m qualified to Post Graduate level in Personal and Business Coaching. I have a prestigious Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) which is seen as the ‘gold standard’ in hypnotherapy training and is accredited nationally as an occupational standards qualification. And, I’ve been awarded the Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner qualification. 

To give you confidence in what I do, I am a Certified and Registered Member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy which is the UK’s leading not-for-profit Hypnotherapy Professional Association. 

I am also a Registered Hypnotherapy Practitioner with the Complementary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC) which is the independent UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners.
